SHARJAH, 26th September, 2026 (WAM) -- Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) announced that it is continuing efforts to implement and complete natural gas network projects in the Central Region.These projects are designed to meet the growing needs of local residents, upgrade service quality across the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, and deliver safe, sustainable, and affordable energy that enhances overall quality of life.To support this, SEWA is currently rolling out four major projects to expand and modernize the natural gas network in the Central Region, with a total investment of over AED18.838 million.Engineer Ibrahim Al Balghouni, Director of the Natural Gas Department at SEWA, explained that the natural gas network expansion plan in the Central Region includes the second phase of the main Al Bataeh gas pipeline extension to reach Al Dhaid and complete the loop around Tal Al Zaafaran neighbourhood.The 27-kilometre project, valued at AED7.73 million, has reached 70% completion and is expected to be completed in November 2026.He added that projects implemented by SEWA since the beginning of this year include the development of the natural gas network in Al Dhaid City, covering Jebel Omar and Tal Al Zaafaran neighbourhoods. The project, valued at AED 5.25 million, spans 63,574 metres and will benefit 286 buildings in Tal Al Zaafaran and 164 buildings in Jebel Omar.Al Balghouni said SEWA will begin implementing a project to develop the gas network in Al Dhaid City's Al Hisn 1 area at a cost of AED 3.158 million and over a length of 30.3 kilometres.No-objection certificates are currently being obtained from the relevant authorities ahead of implementation, with the project expected to be fully completed by the end of June 2027.SEWA will also begin developing the gas network in Al Dhaid's Al Sweih area at a cost of AED2.7 million. The project will extend over 27 kilometres and is expected to be completed by the end of July 2027.Expansion supports clean and cost-effective energyAl Balghouni noted that expanding the natural gas network in the Central Region represents a key step in SEWA's comprehensive strategy to provide clean and cost-effective energy to residents across the Emirate of Sharjah.He added that SEWA teams continue to work intensively in cooperation with various government entities to ensure the projects are completed efficiently and promptly.

Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. Hosted by the UAE at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi until 1 October, the Congress brings together broad international participation from more than 97 countries, including over 32 ministers of justice and interior, alongside senior government officials, judges, prosecutors, experts, and representatives of international organisations, civil society, academia, research institutions and youth from around the world.The opening day witnessed the adoption of the Abu Dhabi Declaration as the principal outcome document of the Congress. The Declaration sets out the priorities and direction of international action on crime prevention, criminal justice and the rule of law over the next five years, supporting the transition from international consensus to actionable and measurable policies, commitments and partnerships.The Congress opened with its inaugural session, followed by discussions on organisational matters and the opening of the high-level segment, which continued throughout the afternoon and evening. In January 2024, MBRGI announced a contribution of AED43 million (US$11.7 million) in direct food aid, in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), to benefit one million people in the Gaza Strip.The January 2024 announcement of food aid was another step in a long-standing legacy of giving. In 2023, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum directed MBRGI to provide AED50 million in urgent aid to the Palestinian people. KATHMANDU, 12th September, 2026 (WAM) -- The UAE Search and Rescue Team continues its field operations in flood-affected areas of Nepal, in coordination and cooperation with the relevant Nepalese authorities and teams, as part of the UAE’s efforts to support humanitarian response and search and rescue operations.The team succeeded in locating 10 people reported missing following the floods that struck Nepal, bringing the total number of missing people located by the team since the start of its mission to 18.Search operations have focused on Rasuwa, areas surrounding the Trishuli River and neighbouring affected locations.The team continues its search operations using advanced equipment and technologies and drones, alongside aerial surveys and three-dimensional mapping, helping identify targeted locations and accelerate efforts to locate missing people.The field operations coincide with the arrival of the fifth UAE humanitarian aid aircraft in Nepal, carrying equipment and supplies to support search and rescue efforts.The shipment included rescue boats, drones, power equipment and devices, as well as technical and logistical equipment, which will be handed over to Nepalese search and rescue teams to strengthen their capabilities and support their operations in affected areas.Hammoud Al Afari, Director of UAE Relief Operations, said UAE teams continue to work alongside the Nepalese authorities, stressing that search and rescue operations are proceeding in line with field priorities and information.He added that equipment and essential supplies are also being provided to Nepalese teams to strengthen their ability to continue search operations and reach affected areas.Al Afari said these efforts reflect the UAE’s longstanding approach to rapidly responding to disasters, supporting affected countries and communities, and providing the humanitarian, relief and technical assistance needed to mitigate the impact of disasters.

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, met Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India.During the meeting, H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed and the Iranian President discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.They also underscored the importance of supporting efforts to ease tensions, promote de-escalation and strengthen regional stability, while advancing opportunities for peace and development for the peoples of the region.

BERLIN, 10th September, 2026 (WAM) -- UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Excellency Friedrich Merz, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, today witnessed the announcement of a number of agreements, memoranda of understanding and letters of intent aimed at further advancing cooperation between the two countries across a range of priority sectors.The announcement took place as part of His Highness’ state visit to Germany.The agreements seek to build upon the long-term partnership between the UAE and Germany and expand cooperation within the framework of their strategic partnership, particularly in the areas of economic development, advanced technology, and energy.The agreements, MOUs and letters of intent announced today include:1. Joint Declaration of Intent on the Establishment of the UAE-German Investment Council2. Declaration on the Launch of the Strategic Dialogue3. Memorandum Concerning Air Transport Arrangements and Access Rights for UAE National Carriers to Berlin Airport4. Cooperation Arrangement towards the Development of an International Initiative to Facilitate Passenger Procedures5. Letter of Intent on Exploring a Framework for Cooperation in Defence and Security6. Joint Declaration of Intent on the Continued Expansion of Cooperation in the Field of Energy7. Joint Declaration of Intent on Investment in Data Centres in Germany8. Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Combating All Forms of Crime9. Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters10. Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of the Environment11. Draft Letter of Intent on Establishing Cooperation in Data Hosting and Information Systems12. Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of CultureThe agreements, memoranda and letters were exchanged on behalf of the UAE by His Excellency Ali bin Hammad Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security; His Excellency Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Federal Republic of Germany; His Excellency Mohamed bin Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Defence Affairs; Her Excellency Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Minister of State; and Her Excellency Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of State, and on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany by the relevant ministers and officials.
