Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is preparing a smart monitoring system for delivery motorcycles. Companies will have to fit tracking devices and connect their fleets to the platform from the second half of 2027.
The system combines Internet of Things devices, advanced cameras and a digital platform. It will record speed, sudden acceleration, harsh braking, riding patterns and routes.
Joining will stay optional until the end of the first half of 2027, so that operators can complete their technical preparations. RTA says it will work with companies during this period, and compliance becomes mandatory afterwards.
Saeed Al Ramsi, Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring at RTA, said the project moves the authority from conventional monitoring to proactive, data-driven oversight. He said it was developed with Dubai Police General Command and other entities.
Companies will be able to follow fleet and rider performance in real time, spot risky habits early and use the data in training and road-safety programmes. RTA also expects the database to inform future regulation of the sector.
