Indian travellers shopping at Dubai Duty Free can now get a 10 per cent discount, capped at Dh100, on eligible purchases when they pay through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
The offer was announced by NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Network International enables UPI acceptance on participating Dubai Duty Free payment terminals and processes the transactions.
To pay with UPI, travellers need to activate the UPI International / UPI Global service for an eligible bank account in their UPI-enabled app. Payments are then made directly from their Indian bank accounts, without the need to carry cash or foreign currency.
Dubai Duty Free sells fashion, beauty, electronics, confectionery, beverages, watches and jewellery at Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport.
NPCI International has been working with payment providers including Network International, NeoPay and Magnati to expand UPI acceptance in the UAE. Besides Dubai Duty Free, UPI is also accepted at Lulu Hypermarket and is being rolled out across hospitality, retail, supermarket and travel-related businesses.
