Iraq has extended the airspace closure period by an additional 72 hours.
BAGHDAD, March 22, 2026 (WAM) -- Iraq announced on Sunday the extension of the closure of its airspace to all incoming, outgoing, and transit flights for an additional 72 hours. A statement released by the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA) through the Iraqi News Agency (INA) indicated that the closure would take effect from 12:00 local time (GMT 09:00) on Sunday and would end at 12:00 on Wednesday, describing this measure as a temporary precaution. INA added that the decision was made following a continuous assessment of the security situation and the evolving regional landscape, noting that this measure would be reviewed based on further developments.
